Component - Based Systems Engineering for Autonomous Spacecraft
نویسندگان
چکیده
The development of modem spacecraft is a challenging endeavor, especially in light of the increasing complexity of today's technology and ambitious mission goals, despite recent budget and personnel cutbacks. A new approach to spacecraft development that addresses many of the current issues facing the aerospace industry is described. The technique, called Component-Based Systems Engineering, is built upon a systems engineering development environment known as SpecTRM. An example of Component-Based Systems Engineering as applied to a series of autonomous spacecraft known as SPHERES is provided. Simulations of both oneand two-Sphere configurations are performed to illustrate not only the usefulness of the technique but also the benefits that Component-Based Systems Engineering provides. Integrated Synthesis, Analysis and Implementation of Model-based Distributed Spacecraft Control Systems
Distributed spacecraft formations are becoming increasingly important to future NASA and DoD missions involving temporally correlated sensing requirements. As communications and crosslink navigation technology continues to evolve, the limiting factor in deploying large scale distributed spacecraft formations will become the availability of robust, validated autonomous controllers. It is clear t...
متن کاملA Remote Agent Prototype for Spacecraft Autonomy
NASA has recently announced the New Millennium Program (NMP) to develop \faster, better, cheaper" spacecraft in order to establish a \virtual presence" in space. A crucial element in achieving this vision is onboard spacecraft autonomy, requiring us to automate functions which have traditionally been achieved on ground by humans. These include planning activities, sequencing spacecraft actions,...
متن کاملAdjustably Autonomous Multi-agent Plan Execution with an Internal Spacecraft Free-Flying Robot Prototype
We present a model-based, adjustably autonomous multiagent architecture with monitoring, planning, diagnosis, and execution elements. We discuss an internal spacecraft freeflying robot prototype controlled by an implementation of this architecture and a ground test facility used for development. In addition, we discuss a simplified environment control life support system for the spacecraft doma...
متن کاملQuaternion-based Finite-time Sliding Mode Controller Design for Attitude Tracking of a Rigid Spacecraft during High-thrust Orbital Maneuver in the Presence of Disturbance Torques
In this paper, a quaternion-based finite-time sliding mode attitude controller is designed for a spacecraft performing high-thrust orbital maneuvers, with cold gas thrusters as its actuators. The proposed controller results are compared with those of a quaternion feedback controller developed for the linearized spacecraft dynamics, in terms of settling time, steady-state error, number of thrust...
متن کاملUncertainty modeling in autonomous robust spacecraft system design
In the last few years, much research has been dedicated to the development of decisions support systems for the space system engineers or even of completely automated design methods capturing the reasoning of the system experts. However, the problem of taking into account the uncertainties of the variables and models to determine an optimal and robust spacecraft design has not been tackled effe...
